Privacy

oblivious ("the app," "we," "us") is a film-making app that lets you weave moments from your photos and videos into a film. We designed oblivious so that your content never reaches us. This policy explains the limited information the app handles and why.

Your content never reaches us

Your photos, videos, the films you make, and any text you add to a moment are stored on your device, and we do not upload, collect, or store your media or your text on our servers. Saving a finished film to your photo library or sharing it with others happens only when you choose to, through your device's own save and share features — it goes to whomever you send it, never to us. The one thing you can deliberately send us is a message you type into the contact form, described below.

Photo library access

The app accesses your photo library only with your permission, and only to let you select moments and save finished films. Your selections are processed on your device.

iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on, your films are kept in your own iCloud so your devices match — film titles, the text you add to moments, and soundtrack audio. That storage sits in your own Apple Account, not on our server, so we cannot read it. We do not copy your photos or videos there; only references to items in your photo library are synced, and the media itself is handled by your own iCloud Photos if you use it. Turning the switch off stops that device from syncing.

Soundtrack generation

Only when you create a soundtrack does the app send an abstract description of that film to our server so a soundtrack can be composed for it.

• What is sent: numbers and on/off values, such as brightness, motion, and warmth, plus a short list of mood words chosen from a fixed vocabulary. These are produced on your device using only the features needed to compose music. The app also sends a one-time verification value (Apple's DeviceCheck mechanism) that confirms the request comes from a genuine device, used to manage the monthly generation limit and prevent unauthorized use. The count is kept per device by Apple's mechanism, and our server stores nothing that identifies you. Older versions of the app send anonymous identification data instead. Neither is linked to your name or email address.
• What is not sent: the contents of your photos, videos, titles, or notes; identity information such as your name or email address; or raw data such as capture dates or location. You do not need to create an account or sign in with an email address or password.
• What it is used for: the description is processed within the system that creates the soundtrack—our servers and the cloud and generative-music services we use—only as necessary to generate and deliver the soundtrack and operate the service safely. It is not used to train generative AI models. We do aggregate values derived from it—such as which musical style and tempo were chosen—to tune the quality of the music. Your photos, videos, and text are never sent to these servers.

Logs

When the app generates a soundtrack, checks your remaining quota, sends a message from the contact form, or opens the in-app help, privacy policy, or terms of use, it connects to a server. The help text, this policy, and the terms live on our website (oblivious.jp) and the app loads them to display; those requests send no verification data and nothing you have entered. In each case, our server, the cloud infrastructure we use, and the host of our website keep records of the request—such as IP address, time, and error details—for a limited period. When a soundtrack is generated, a record of that single generation is also kept. It holds the conditions of that generation, such as the number of moments, the length of the film, the mood words that were sent, the musical style and tempo that were chosen, the soundtrack name that was composed automatically, and how that month's count was tallied. It contains none of the contents of your photos, videos, titles, or notes, and nothing that identifies you. A record of a contact form submission also includes the app and iOS versions, but nothing that identifies you. These are used only to prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and keep the service running; they contain none of the contents of your photos, videos, or text, and are never used for sale or advertising.

Support inquiries

The contact form in the app asks only for your message. There is no field for an email address, and it does not ask you for contact details anywhere—so we have no way to identify you, and no way to reply.

• What is sent: the message you write. The app also sends its own version and your iOS version so we can investigate problems. The submission also carries the same one-time verification value used for soundtrack generation (older versions of the app send anonymous identification data instead); it is used only to verify the request and is not kept in the record of your message.
• How it is kept: messages are stored on Google Cloud (Firestore, Tokyo region) as our processor, and are deleted automatically 90 days after they arrive.

No sale or advertising

We do not sell any information handled by the app—including the abstract description sent to generate a soundtrack—to third parties, or use it for advertising. The same applies to information we receive through support inquiries.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the effective date below.
